Cow Advocacy
Balinese Hindus consider the cow a sacred animal, because they are not carnivores, their feces and urine are excellent fertilizers, they help till the land, furthermore the cow is the chosen animal to be the vehicle of the Great God Siwa. So, many Hindus avoid eating beef to express this relationship of love and interdependent with this animal. Thus, they are also excellent collateral in financial emergencies, useful for borrowing money from neighbors.
So, Mitra Bali created a program called Cow Advocay! When a cow, furnished by Mitra Bali, bears a calf, the first offspring goes to the artisans and the second to Mitra Bali, and this cycle continues.
